WAFB: It's electric! Local truck stop goes green with IdleAir
Thursday, July 17th / Port Allen, LA
On a hot summer afternoon, curious onlookers, truck drives and the media gathered at the Cash's Truck Plaza for IdleAir's grand opening celebration of their Truck Stop Electrificaiton units in Port Allen. WAFB filmed a segment on this project which aired Friday, July 18th. If you have trouble viewing the video below, click here to go to WAFB's website.
WAFB 9 News Baton Rouge, Louisiana News, Weather, Sports
Background:
As of August of 2013, Louisiana now has a Truck Stop Electrification facility thanks to a grant from the state Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) awarded to the Greater Baton Rouge Clean Cities Coalition (GBRCCC - now LCF).
IdleAir Advanced Truck Stop Electrification (TSE) provides class 8 long-haul truck drivers with a suite of services that eliminate the need for engine idling. Electrified Parking Spaces (EPS) allow truck drivers to power their air conditioner, small appliances, or Internet router. The system delivers power for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning by connecting a hose into the truck window. Truck drivers using the equipment will be charged by the hour for access to the EPS.
The story:
"Thousands of 18-wheelers pass through Louisiana every day, leaving behind dirty exhaust fumes, but a local truck stop is the first in state to offer a service that helps cut down those emissions while saving truckers money in the process.
Drivers pulling into special parking spots along the back of Cash’s Truck Plaza in Port Allen are looking for the hook-up…literally..." Read more: http://www.wafb.com/story/26061161/its-electric-local-truck-stop-goes-green
