New fuel sources in vehicles bring about need for additional training for emergency responders
Grant to help educate responders on alternative fuel source vehicles

The article (linked above) by Amy Wold at The Advocate tells the story of our recent grant award from the US Department of Energy.  Why is this training important? We use natural gas to cook with and to heat our water in our homes, we use propane for home heating and in our back yard BBQ pits, and we have electricity running all throughout our homes to power our lighting and electronics. When you think of these three fuels, did you realize that they are also utilized in vehicles to run them and to get them down the road?

As consumers, we are used to gasoline and diesel. We know their dangers and act appropriately in their presence. Alterative vehicle fuels such as CNG, Propane and Electricity are also safe when handled properly and when people are trained adequately. Just like gasoline and diesel, all of these fuels can be very dangerous if they are not treated with respect and if people are not adequately trained to handle them. Carelessness, with anything alone these lines, can be quite dangerous.

With proper training, alternative Fuels such as CNG, Propane and Electricity are just as safe as traditional fuels. Louisiana Clean Fuels is committed to the safety of our stakeholders and is excited to bring critical first responder and code official training to Louisiana.
