Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development awarded $2,999,889 of Clean Ports Investments from EPA grant
EPA’s Clean Ports Program to fund 55 zero-emission port equipment, infrastructure, and planning projects across the nation to tackle climate change, reduce air pollution, promote good jobs, and advance environmental justice. As part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America agenda, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has been selected to receive a total of $2,999,889 through EPA’s Clean Ports Program for climate and air quality planning.
“I’m excited announce new EPA funding, made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act I championed, which will help Louisiana lead our ports toward a sustainable, resilient future. This award will enable us to create a comprehensive carbon footprint baseline for 32 ports across the state, setting the groundwork to meet a net-zero carbon emission future for one of our most important industries. This initiative not only safeguards our infrastructure but also uplifts our communities, ensuring a cleaner, more sustainable future for all Louisianians,” said Congressman Troy A. Carter, Sr. (LA-02).
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has been selected to receive a Climate and Air Quality Planning Grant for an anticipated $2,999,889 for planning activities at multiple ports in Louisiana. Expected activities include developing a power use and carbon footprint baseline for 32 Louisiana ports, developing plans to move towards carbon neutrality, integrating communities into port decision making, and developing plans to enhance resiliency of ports during severe weather events. The project will also include workforce development activities in partnership with local educational institutions.
The project is planned to:
- Develop power use and carbon footprint baseline for 32 Louisiana ports
- Develop plans to move towards carbon neutrality
- Integrate communities into port decision making
- Develop plans to enhance resiliency of ports during severe weather events
- Workforce development activities
