    WBRZ: New "green" dorm for purple and gold LSU

    BATON ROUGE - Some incoming LSU students get to experience the newest in living arrangements with an eco-friendly dorm.

    Cypress Hall is the first dormitory hall that's trying to go "green." It's a new dorm built from the ground-up with recycled products and designed to be energy efficient. From solar panels to sensor lighting in each room, the new hall will house more than 300 students.

    LSU officials said they plan to submitted for LEED certification with the potential to reach silver status.

    "What makes Cypress different from our other facilities on campus are the preparations that's went into everything from taking this previous parking lot and building this beautiful facility to the constructions products that were used to the recycle of construction products, " said Catherine David, Associate Director Communications & Development of LSU Residential life.

    The new dorm also has an indoor bike storage and shower next to it. Charging station for electric cars will also be available, and Bio swells used to control storm water and filter storm waste.

    The building took two years to complete. Class starts on Aug. 24.
