DOE launching Community Energy Prize
DOE has launched the second round of the Community Energy Innovation Prize and is now accepting applications for the first phase. This multi-million-dollar competition is designed to support grassroots innovation in communities historically underrepresented in energy development across the U.S. This round features a new clean transportation track, the Vehicles Ecosystem Track, that might be of special interest to CC&C coalitions and stakeholders!
This is a unique opportunity for community organizations and groups to win part of a $8.42 million prize pool and receive the guidance and funding they need to address local challenges related to clean energy access, energy security, economic and workforce growth, and sustainable development.
Three competition tracks:
- Clean Energy Ecosystem Track – $3.22 million in prizes for teams fostering innovation and technology deployment based on community needs.
- Manufacturing Ecosystem Track – $2.6 million in prizes for developing sustainable manufacturing ecosystems to address emerging material and technology challenges.
- Vehicles Ecosystem Track – $2.6 million in prizes for promoting sustainable transportation solutions and improving public health and air quality.
Any eligible team can apply for the CONCEPT Phase, where you’ll form coalitions and develop project ideas. Up to 32 teams will be selected as winners, receiving $75,000–$100,000 each in prize funding, plus in-kind mentorship and support services. Teams that succeed in the CONCEPT Phase will be eligible to advance to the next stages of the prize.
Applications are open until June 20. Learn more and apply here: https://www.herox.com/
