US Department of Energy has announced up to $68.5 million in funding for research focused on advanced vehicle technologies “to enable future private-sector development and commercialization of affordable, energy-efficient transportation technologies that can strengthen our energy security.”

The funding announcement specifically encourages partnerships between researching teams and Clean Cities Coalitions for six of its areas of interest (3a-3f) related to technology implementation, which are:

  • High Performance Computing for Transportation Hubs;
  • First/Last Mile for People/Goods Movement;
  • System-level Data for Energy Efficient Mobility;
  • Fuel Efficient Platooning;
  • Multi-Unit Dwelling and Curbside Residential Charging Infrastructure Innovations;
  • Open Topic (focusing on novel solution to transportation and energy mobility challenges not specified in the other topics).

This funding has been made available via the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The funding was announced on May 1, 2018, and concept papers are due May 29, 2018 with full applications due by July 13, 2018.
